Is a Cavalier the Right Puppy for You?

If you have been looking to get a dog and you have learned about the Cavalier and want to know if this breed is the one for you, this content can help. Ask yourself the following questions, and if you answer
"yes" to most of them, then you may find that the Cavalier would be a fantastic puppy to join your family.

Do you want a small dog?

If you want a small dog, then you may be glad to learn that the Cavalier fits right into this category, as it is considered one of the "toy group" dogs. Most of them have a weight that falls somewhere between 13 to 18 pounds, and they are normally around 12 or 13 inches tall. Their compact size makes them great for sharing the bed, lying on your lap, and fitting perfectly inside of your car for trips. However, even though the Cavalier is a small dog, it is also a hardy dog, so you won't have to worry about it being quite as fragile as you might think it is or as other small dog breeds are.

Is a nice-looking coat worth extra grooming needs?

If you are okay with a dog that requires more grooming than some other breeds as long as you get to enjoy a dog with a great coat, then the Cavalier meets this qualification as well. Although a Cavalier has a longer coat that requires frequent brushing and grooming, the coat is gorgeous and soft. A Cavalier won't necessarily need trips to the groomer, but weekly brushing is important to keep their coat from becoming matted. However, this grooming time can be enjoyable for both you and your furry friend.

Are you looking for an activity partner and a cuddle bug?

If you want a dog that loves to go on walks with you and chase the ball in the yard but is just as happy to curl up on your lap while you read a book, then the Cavalier brings you these things as well. One thing you do need to be aware of is that the Cavalier's shorter muzzle makes it more susceptible to heat exhaustion on hot days. This means you will want to be careful as temperatures rise and take your Cavalier out during the cooler times, such as in the early evening on really hot days.

About Me

Managing Pet's Expectations

When you have a pet, you really do get to know their personality. While I never thought too terribly much about what my pet wanted, I realized really early on that if I uttered the word "park," my animal would expect a visit to the local playground. I started thinking carefully about how to manage my pet's expectations, and while it was difficult, we learned together how to make things better than ever before. I started being more careful about what I said and when, and it really paid off. Find out more about how to help your animal live a happier life on this blog.
